Lakhimpur Kheri

Our journey begins from Lakhimpur Kheri. As we leave behind the hustle and bustle of the city, the lush green forests, villages, and farmlands of the Terai region welcome us with open arms.

Soon, we arrive at Chandan Chowki, where members of the Tharu community greet us in their traditional style with tilak and garlands. The earthy fragrance, warm hospitality, and delicious hot potato parathas, tea, and fish fritters make the journey truly special.

Next, we visit Gobraula Village, where we discover the beautiful world of Tharu handicrafts. Colorful baskets, trays, jute bags, rugs, prayer mats, and yoga mats made from moonj and kans grass showcase the rich rural artistry and cultural heritage of the Tharu people. Visitors can also wear traditional Tharu attire and feel themselves becoming a part of this vibrant culture.

The journey then takes us to Najhota Village, where mud-and-wood houses, organic spices, lush forests, and the experience of traditional fishing offer a close glimpse into the simplicity of rural life.

By afternoon, we return to Chandan Chowki, where a traditional Tharu meal is served. The vegetarian platter includes local delicacies such as Mishoula, Dhikri, Patota, and Phulori, along with several other authentic dishes. For non-vegetarian guests, specialties such as fish, country chicken, and prawns make the dining experience unforgettable.

As evening approaches, a bullock-cart ride begins in Himmat Nagar. We then proceed to the India–Nepal Border Pillar, where visitors enjoy photography and experience the historic landmark that connects the two neighboring countries.

At night, we reach Bankati Village, where another traditional Tharu feast awaits. Vegetarian dishes include Mishoula, Dhikri, Patota, Phulori, and various local specialties, while fish, country chicken, and prawns delight non-vegetarian food lovers.

As part of the cultural experience, Puraina Village hosts a special Tharu cultural program featuring the famous Jhumra Folk Dance, adding color, music, and excitement to the journey.

The next day, we travel to Parsiya Village, where Tharu handicrafts, lotus ponds, and fishing experiences bring visitors even closer to nature.

The journey continues through the forests of Singahiya, where travelers explore vast lotus ponds spread across a large area and learn traditional methods of fishing.

The final destination is Pipraula Village, where mud-and-wood houses, village history, Tharu traditions, and an organic lifestyle leave a lasting impression on every visitor. The simplicity and warmth of these homes beautifully reflect the spirit of rural life.

As evening falls, we begin our return journey to Lakhimpur Kheri. Along the way, over tea and snacks, we share memories of the experiences we have gathered.
